West Ham have signed former Middlesbrough defender Emanuel Pogatetz on loan from German Bundesliga club Wolfsburg until the end of the season in a deal thought to be worth £500,000
Pogatertz who made 158 appearances for Middlesbrough is nicknamed "Mad Dog" for his aggressive style of play. This is how he got his nick name!
In 2005 Emanuel Pogatetz broke the leg of Shinnik Yaroslavl player Yaroslav Kharitonskiy and faced a 24 week ban from Russian Football Association while on loan to Spartak Moscow. This was later reduced to eight weeks when he joined Middlesbrough.

He received another bashing and cut eye in Middlesborough's 4-3 over Bolton when Sam Allardyce managed them. Kevin Nolan & Jussi Jaaskelainen played for Bolton in that match.
